This guide walks through enrolling iOS devices via Apple’s Device Enrollment Program (DEP) using Apple Business Manager (ABM) or Apple School Manager (ASM), integrated with CapaOne Mobile Manager.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have access to:
- Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager
- CapaOne Mobile Manager
- Devices available for setup or factory reset
Step 1: Assign Devices in Apple Business Manager
Log into Apple Business Manager (or Apple School Manager), navigate to the Devices section, locate the devices you want to enroll, and assign them to the “CapaOne Mobile Manager Server” via the Edit MDM Server option.
Step 2: Synchronize Devices in CapaOne
Within CapaOne, go to the Apple endpoint page and open the DEP tab. Initiate a synchronization to pull in the newly assigned devices. Refresh the view if the devices do not appear immediately.
Step 3: Link an Enrollment Configuration
Next to each device’s serial number, select “Link enrollment” and choose the appropriate enrollment configuration. Once linked, the device should display an “Assigned” status.
Step 4: Initialize the Device
Power on or reset the device. During the setup wizard, select your language and region, then connect to WiFi.
Step 5: Complete Registration
When prompted for registration:
- If Azure AD authentication is enabled, sign in with the user’s synced credentials.
- If Azure AD is not configured, enrollment proceeds automatically and the device receives a “Supervised” designation.
Best Practices
- Always synchronize devices in CapaOne before linking enrollment configurations.
- Verify that the correct MDM server is assigned in ABM/ASM before initiating setup.
- Use DEP consistently for all corporate-owned devices to ensure supervised management from first boot.
